Happy Super Bowl Sunday! It’s not as much fun when the Patriots are not playing in the big game.
This week’s SHS Faculty PD.
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week, Mike Russell and our January students of the month, Juliana Romeo, Jason Guerra, Ben Duhamel, and Bianca Lancellotti.
We had a couple of important visitors this week at SHS:
SHS junior Tim Segee received a surprise visit during PE class on Monday. Tim’s father returned from deployment overseas early Monday morning and he stopped by SHS to surprise his son. Thank you Mr. Segee for your service to our country!
We also fortunate to have Governor Raimondo and RI Commissioner of Education Ken Wagner meet with Mr. Stone’s pre-calculus class to discuss SAT’s. The Governor announced that she wants every student to take the SAT next year. She included a significant sum of money in next years budget proposal to implement this initiative. The Governor and Commissioner were able to take a quick tour of the CTE programs at SHS before she went back to the State House to prep for the State of the State Address.

SHS has partnered with the Smithfield EMA to provide CERT training for SHS students.
What is CERT training? CERT trains and organizes teams of volunteers that provide assistance to their communities before, during, and after disasters. CERT volunteers help others following disasters when professional responders are not immediately available to help, and supplement and support the efforts of professional responders upon their arrival. Volunteers also support emergency response agencies by organizing and participating in local preparedness projects and initiatives. The CERT program educates participants about how to prepare for hazards that may impact their communities and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
Thank you to Mr. Zibelli for bringing this opportunity to our students.
Lot’s of big games this week. Check out www.riil.org for all the updates. Arrive early for the boys basketball game vs. Hendricken on Tuesday night. We are anticipating a large crowd.
No school 2/15 and 2/16.
Keep a close eye on the weather this week.
